Event Description: Pick up your free copy of "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien and kick-off the metro Big Read with a variety of events. Local musicians Danny Cox and Bob & Diana Suckiel will perform protest songs of the Vietnam era from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Learn about Vietnamese food with a cooking demonstration and tasting at 4:00 pm. Then stick around to watch Tom Hanks award-winning portrayal of "Forrest Gump" with a screening at 7 pm. Can't come to the kick-off? Ask for your copy of "The Things They Carried" at the Information Desk of either Olathe library beginning September 18. Visit the library's website for additional Big Read programming in September and October.
