Pioneer Trail Middle School receives Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Award |
|
Pioneer Trail Middle School was recently named a 2012 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School. This prestigious national honor is based on the Blueprint for Excellence assessment process. Pioneer Trail met or exceeded criteria for all nine categories, which include:
- Student Focus and Support
School Organization and Culture
Challenging Standards and Curriculum
Active Teaching and Learning
Technology Integration
Professional Community
Leadership and Educational Vitality
School, Family, and Community Partnerships
Indicators of Success
Designation as a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School lasts for five years, at which time the school is eligible for revalidation. Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Schools commit to sharing expertise and exemplary practices with other schools on a local, regional and national level as well as providing mentoring and networking to schools seeking guidance and assistance in school improvement initiatives.
"This is a wonderful honor and recognition for the entire Pioneer Trail community," said Mike Wolgast, Pioneer Trail Middle School principal. "It reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, students and families."
The award will be presented in a ceremony during the banquet at the Blue Ribbon Schools Blueprint for Excellence National Conference in December 2012.
"We are thrilled that Pioneer Trail has received the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse honor," said Erin Dugan, assistant superintendent. "What is exciting about the Lighthouse honor is that it takes into consideration more than just test results.
"The award recognizes student success, culture, climate, implementation of best practices, parent engagement, among many other important characteristics of a successful school. In addition, we are very proud that less than two years after the transition to grades 6-8 middle schools, our buildings are already meeting and exceeding national best practices. It’s very gratifying to know that our middle schools are providing students the highest quality education possible."
