Responding to virtual workplaces and challenging situations, the HR Roundtable will be live on Zoom will tackle the sudden shift to remote and scattered workers. Pre-register to learn communication strategies for helping your employees be productive and feel connected while working from home as lead by Angie Pastorek, PhD, Program Director of KU Edwards graduate programs in organizational communication (and an experienced virtual worker).

Learn practical tips and strategies for everyday team communication tips and manage uncertainty in a virtual work environment; maintaining professionalism and personal leadership while working from home; and addressing common myths about working from home.

Dr. Pastorek will bring us research-based insights during this uncertain and chaotic time. Discussion will also highlight the benefits of getting virtual work right, including better leveraging communication technologies to build diverse teams across boundaries, increasing employee commitment, and building structures that can attract and retain top talent for the long term.

What is the HR Roundtable?

We offer a unique environment for human resources practitioners to explore related best practices, emerging trends, and workplace issues with their peers on a monthly basis.
Meeting registration opens two weeks prior to the event date and catered lunch registration ends the Friday before the meeting date. Complimentary Pepsi beverages are always available.
Payments for catered lunch are accepted online only. Cancelations must be received by 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the event.
Space is limited to 30 people. A waiting list will be maintained as needed and individuals will be contacted if space becomes available.

The Olathe HR Roundtable offers human resource practitioners of member organizations a forum to discuss and share related best practices, emerging trends, and workplace issues. The main purpose of the roundtable is to create a unique environment where information can be shared in an open-exchange format that is collaborative, engaging, and valuable to represented organizations and the HR profession.

Who is it designed for?

The HR Roundtable was created as a networking and problem-solving opportunity for human resource practitioners who are directly involved in the personnel and hiring process of their organization (i.e. HR managers, recruiters, benefits specialists, payroll administrators, etc.). Small business owners and office managers often benefit from participating in these monthly meetings, as well.

Can vendors attend?

Due to limited space and because of the nature of the topics that are openly discussed by the HR practitioners, some attendance restrictions do apply. Thus it is crucial to the group’s success that attendance is restricted to "vendors" (identified as people who work in a "non-HR role") who provide uniquely human resources services and/or products.
Up to five seats will be reserved for vendors representing a relevant product or service may attend each meeting, with only one representative per business or organization each month.
Vendors are often seen as the “solutions experts” to the questions and concerns pertaining to the month's topic; therefore vendor input is welcome while “sales messages” are not. Vendors, along with all attendees, are encouraged to utilize the lunch and networking portion to meet others in the room.
To determine the appropriateness of vendors attending, Chamber staff will evaluate several factors, including their relevance to the employment situations that the HR practitioners face in their day-to-day jobs (i.e. vendors who provide payroll services, pre-employment testing, staffing assistance, training, benefits, etc.); training or unique qualifications directly relating to the topic of the month (i.e. college representative, benefits expert, employment law specialist, government agency, corporate consultant, etc.); and membership status.

Can non-members of the Olathe Chamber attend?

One representative of a non-member organization is welcome to attend one meeting a year.

Can vendors make presentations to the HR practitioners that attend?

Vendor-led discussions or presentations are at the sole discretion of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce staff.
This is a "no sales" environment in order to preserve the dialogue and integrity of the meetings.

Beginning Saturday, April 4, 2020 @ 10:00 am, GateWay of Hope, a non-profit women’s counseling and life coaching center, will host a four-day conference to help those with mental health issues cope with the impact of the COVID-19 virus. The Coronavirus outbreak and the “stay at home” order has us struggling with our new normal. People are feeling isolated, and those with mental health concerns like depression or anxiety, are struggling to cope with this new environment. GateWay of Hope wants to help! Because many women are affected by the shut down in services, we are sharing this free event and making it available in a virtual format. In keeping with social distancing guidelines, you can join us by using a computer, phone or iPad. Our hope is that you would benefit from the information that we will be sharing in the Symposium. The Olathe Chamber of Commerce program to feed first responders while helping our member restaurants at the same time.

Brought to you with the initial support of John Deere and Farmers Insurance.

We find ourselves at the precipice of uncharted, extremely difficult times. First responders are working around the clock to help keep our community safe, often putting themselves in harm’s way, in the process. We want to help.

At the same time, there are more than 60 Olathe Chamber member restaurants struggling during these tough times. We felt the perfect way to help our community was to start a program with the help of John Deere and Farmers Insurance to come to the aid of both our first responders and our Chamber restaurants.

The Frontline Fund is designed to be mutually beneficial by raising funds to purchase meals from our restaurants to help feed our first responders.

Another goal is to help our restaurants communicate to their customers and neighbors that THEY are feeding the first responders through the Frontline Fund.

Explain exactly who they’re helping
Consider offering a simple item to serve the community, or a single, bulk daily delivery
Use #OlatheFrontlineFund and/or the logo to support your efforts on social media and marketing efforts

Share the impact - connecting customers to the Olathe Chamber team and the frontline.

Where it goes

Through this program, we’ll be helping hospitals, police departments, fire stations and medical suppliers. We’re looking to provide much-needed meals throughout the day to our frontline employees by working with our member restaurants. The meals will be delivered by the restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner times.

Safety is the biggest concern

Participating restaurants should continue to use proper safety and hygiene measures, and follow the changing instructions of local and federal governments. Current guidelines indicate low risk of COVID-19 transmission through food delivery and food pick-ups. Restaurants shall remain diligent about specific, strict safety guidelines, all meals must be individually wrapped/packaged, must coordinate deliveries with specific location and remember that all donations are perishable.

These dates are TENTATIVE at this point. Location - TBD Budget for this academy is $28,000 for 25 couples (50 adults). Couples will be asked to pay $250 per couple (about $20/person per night) leaving $15,250 in needed cash, donations, and in-kind funding.
