Successful project management and change management require good time management and organization skills. This month, we will explore how our physical spaces impact every part of our lives, and we’ll welcome Amber Taggard and Clare Alise Warrington with The Organizer Chicks as they share the steps and processes of how businesses and their people can utilize the power of organization to succeed. Owner and founder, Amber Taggart, holds an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health and she will incorporate her counseling background as she and Clare help us learn to improve our mental and emotional health in the workplace by creating important organized spaces.

What is the HR Roundtable?

We offer a unique environment for human resources practitioners to explore related best practices, emerging trends, and workplace issues with their peers on a monthly basis.
Meeting registration opens two weeks prior to the event date and catered lunch registration ends the Friday before the meeting date. Complimentary Pepsi beverages are always available.
Payments for catered lunch are accepted online only. Cancelations must be received by 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the event.
Space is limited to 30 people. A waiting list will be maintained as needed and individuals will be contacted if space becomes available.

Mission Statement:

The Olathe HR Roundtable offers human resource practitioners of member organizations a forum to discuss and share related best practices, emerging trends, and workplace issues. The main purpose of the roundtable is to create a unique environment where information can be shared in an open-exchange format that is collaborative, engaging, and valuable to represented organizations and the HR profession.

Who is it designed for?

The HR Roundtable was created as a networking and problem-solving opportunity for human resource practitioners who are directly involved in the personnel and hiring process of their organization (i.e. HR managers, recruiters, benefits specialists, payroll administrators, etc.). Small business owners and office managers often benefit from participating in these monthly meetings, as well.

Can vendors attend?

Due to limited space and because of the nature of the topics that are openly discussed by the HR practitioners, some attendance restrictions do apply. Thus it is crucial to the group’s success that attendance is restricted to "vendors" (identified as people who work in a "non-HR role") who provide uniquely human resources services and/or products.
Up to five seats will be reserved for vendors representing a relevant product or service may attend each meeting, with only one representative per business or organization each month.
Vendors are often seen as the “solutions experts” to the questions and concerns pertaining to the month's topic; therefore vendor input is welcome while “sales messages” are not. Vendors, along with all attendees, are encouraged to utilize the lunch and networking portion to meet others in the room.
To determine the appropriateness of vendors attending, Chamber staff will evaluate several factors, including their relevance to the employment situations that the HR practitioners face in their day-to-day jobs (i.e. vendors who provide payroll services, pre-employment testing, staffing assistance, training, benefits, etc.); training or unique qualifications directly relating to the topic of the month (i.e. college representative, benefits expert, employment law specialist, government agency, corporate consultant, etc.); and membership status.

Can non-members of the Olathe Chamber attend?

One representative of a non-member organization is welcome to attend one meeting a year.

Can vendors make presentations to the HR practitioners that attend?

Vendor-led discussions or presentations are at the sole discretion of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce staff.
This is a "no sales" environment in order to preserve the dialogue and integrity of the meetings.

Students will be competing in several life-skill areas during the Career Development Conference (CDC) competition. And, competitions need judges. The winners will move on to the Kansas state level competition on April 15th in Salina, KS. A regional level competition for the KCK School District is new this year. I first participated as a judge at the CDC in Arkansas City, KS in 2017. Student competitions included job interviews, business plans, team tower building, and a few more. I was a judge for the business plans. One student group wanted to provide more constructive activities for the youth in their area (Topeka). Their plan was to renovate an old shopping center. Another student group created homemade snacks on the go and gave each of us a sample. While their business plans still needed work, their wonderful ideas were full of passion, hard work and planning. The 2020 Career Development Conference competition includes a variety of public speaking competitions, presentations related to career readiness, service learning projects, and leadership. The criteria for judging each event will be provided for you. My understanding is there are 10 separate competition events this year. Students who are invited to participate in the JAG-K program are those most at-risk of dropping out of high school. In my experience, the average student in these schools meet 8-10 items on the list of selection criteria - the minimum to get invited is 5. So, you know the approx 30 students who are involved in this program at their school are up against tremendous struggles, but they are trying hard to break their family's cycle of poverty. The JAG program encourages completing high school, career development, and community service. Moneytalk will be coordinating the judges for the regional KCK School District CDC's competition this year. I am estimating we will need 40-50+ volunteer judges for this event. We may be able to have morning shift, afternoon shift, and all-day options - there is much planning still going on at this time. A light breakfast, lunch, and drinks will be provided throughout the day. We also have a need for donations to cover the cost of the food, drinks, and paper goods for our judges.
