Olathe Civic Theatre Association continues its 2017-2018 season with Superior Donuts by Tracy Letts, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of August: Osage County. With Superior Donuts, Letts shifts from the highly charged physical tone and dark humor of his previous works, but retains his contemporary flavor with a lighter touch to address complex social issues. OCTA’s stage will transform into a Chicago donut shop for the three-weekend run of this KC area premiere April 6–22. The story centers on Arthur Pryzbyszewski, who owns a run-down donut shop in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. His world is turned upside down when Franco Wicks, an ambitious young black man who is his only employee, wants to change the shop for the better. This dramatic comedy addresses the challenges of embracing the past while celebrating the redemptive power of friendship.

Three crooks. Eight doors. Go.” UNNECESSARY FARCE is an award-winning stage comedy that combines all the elements of classic farce with a contemporary American plot. In an economy motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant. In the room next door, two undercover cops are supposed to catch the meeting on videotape. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room, who’s watching the video, who’s taken the money, who’s hired a hit man, and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes. EXPECTATION AND PREPARATION: Prepare: Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Prior to auditions, please read and familiarize yourself with the play and the role/s that interest you. FAQ:

What is the HR Roundtable?

We offer a unique environment for human resources practitioners to explore related best practices, emerging trends, and workplace issues with their peers on a monthly basis.
Meeting registration opens two weeks prior to the event date and catered lunch registration ends the Friday before the meeting date. Complimentary Pepsi beverages are always available.
Payments for catered lunch are accepted online only. Cancelations must be received by 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the event.
Space is limited to 30 people. A waiting list will be maintained as needed and individuals will be contacted if space becomes available.

Mission Statement:

The Olathe HR Roundtable offers human resource practitioners of member organizations a forum to discuss and share related best practices, emerging trends, and workplace issues. The main purpose of the roundtable is to create a unique environment where information can be shared in an open-exchange format that is collaborative, engaging, and valuable to represented organizations and the HR profession.

Who is it designed for?

The HR Roundtable was created as a networking and problem-solving opportunity for human resource practitioners who are directly involved in the personnel and hiring process of their organization (i.e. HR managers, recruiters, benefits specialits, payroll administrators, etc.). Small business owners and office managers often benefit from participating in these monthly meetings, as well.

Can vendors attend?

Due to limited space and because of the nature of the topics that are openly discussed by the HR practitioners, some attendance restrictions do apply. Thus it is crucial to the group’s success that attendance is restricted to "vendors" (identified as people who work in a "non-HR role") who provide uniquely human resources services and/or products.
Up to five seats will be reserved for vendors representing a relevant product or service may attend each meeting, with only one representative per business or organization each month.
Vendors are often seen as the “solutions experts” to the questions and concerns pertaining to the month's topic; therefore vendor input is welcome while “sales messages” are not. Vendors, along with all attendees, are encouraged to utilize the lunch and networking portion to meet others in the room.
To determine the appropriateness of vendors attending, Chamber staff will evaluate several factors, including their relevance to the employment situations that the HR practitioners face in their day-to-day jobs (i.e. vendors who provide payroll services, pre-employment testing, staffing assistance, training, benefits, etc.); training or unique qualifications directly relating to the topic of the month (i.e. college representative, benefits expert, employment law specialist, government agency, corporate consultant, etc.); and membership status.

Can non-members of the Olathe Chamber attend?

One representative of a non-member organization is welcome to attend one meeting a year.

Can vendors make presentations to the HR practitioners that attend?

Vendor-led discussions or presentations are at the sole discretion of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce staff.
This is a "no sales" environment in order to preserve the dialogue and integrity of the meetings.

In celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the birth of James Beatty Mahaffie, Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm Historic Site and Olathe Civic Theatre Assocation are cooking up some fun for the whole family with an old-fashioned melodrama packed with more fiction than fact, but a whole lot of fun that gives Olathe’s history with the ’roundabout’! The melodrama takes place on the grounds of the historic Mahaffie Farm and is one hour. Choose between two performance time—5 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. on Saturday (food served between performances on Saturday), or Sunday at 2 pm. On SATURDAY, your ticket price includes one admission, a meal served at the reception between shows, and a coupon for a free visit to Mahaffie. The Olathe Police Foundation is hosting the 704 Blue Run on Saturday, April 28th at College Church of the Nazarene at 2020 East Sheridan. This is a three-prong event that includes a 7.04 mile run, a 5k run/walk and a 1 mile children’s fun run - there’s something for the entire family. The events will start at 7:04 am.

This event is dedicated to the memory of Officer Michael Kern whose radio number was Unit 704. Proceeds from this event have supported $6,000 in college scholarship awards to Olathe Police Department graduating high school seniors over the past two years. Please consider assisting us in keeping this effort alive.

The Olathe Fire Department invites all area children to bring their bikes to the annual Olathe Helmet Head Bike Rodeo. Kids ages 15 and under will receive a free bike helmet, WHILE SUPPLIES LAST. All parents must be accompanied by a child. Event updates will be posted to the Olathe Fire Department's social media sites (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). While at the Rodeo, stop by Olathe Medical Center’s Family Fun Fest for a tour of the new Cancer Center, free screenings, health information and, of course, lots of family fun activities.
