Speaker for the event will be Scott Ellsworth, author of "The Secret Game: A Wartime Story of Courage, Change, and Basketball's Lost Triumph." "The Secret Game" tells the story of James Naismith’s last protégé at the University of Kansas, Coach John McLendon, and the 1944 game-changing illegal basketball competition between the North Carolina College for Negroes and the all-white military team from the Duke Medical School. The book won a 2016 PEN Book Award, and was named by the "Chicago Tribune" as one of the Top Ten Books of the Year. This year's event is dedicated in memory of foundation co-founder Clifford Tatham, whose contributions will be honored with a mayor proclamation. Tickets for the event are $75 with $30 tax-deductible and include the program, dinner of roasted beef tenderloin and Scottish salmon. A cash bar is available and business casual attire is suggested. What is the HR Roundtable?

It offers a unique environment for human resources practitioners to interact with their peers on a monthly basis, discuss and share related best practices, emerging trends, and workplace issues.
Meeting registration opens two weeks prior to the event date and ends the Friday before the meeting date. Complimentary Pepsi beverages are always available.
Payments for catered lunch are accepted online only. Cancelations must be received by 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the event.
Space is limited to 30 people. A waiting list will be maintained as needed and individuals will be contacted if space becomes available.

Mission Statement:

The Olathe HR Roundtable offers human resource practitioners of member organizations a forum to discuss and share related best practices, emerging trends, and workplace issues. The main purpose of the roundtable is to create a unique environment where information can be shared in an open-exchange format that is collaborative, engaging, and valuable to represented organizations and the HR profession.

Who is it designed for?

The HR Roundtable was created as a networking and problem-solving opportunity for human resource practitioners who are directly involved in the personnel and hiring process of their organization (i.e. HR managers, recruiters, benefits specialits, payroll administrators, etc.).

Can vendors attend?

Due to limited space and because of the nature of the topics that are openly discussed by the HR practitioners, some attendance restrictions do apply. Thus it is crucial to the group’s success that attendance is restricted to vendors (people who work outside of the "HR role") who provide uniquely human resources services and/or products.
Up to five seats will be reserved for vendors representing a relevant product or service may attend each meeting, with only one representative per business or organization each month.
Vendors are often the “solutions experts” to the questions and concerns that the HR practitioners have; therefore vendor input is welcome while “sales messages” are not.
To determine the appropriateness of vendors attending, Chamber staff will evaluate several factors, including their relevance to the employment situations that the HR practitioners face in their day-to-day jobs (i.e. vendors who provide payroll services, pre-employment testing, staffing assistance, training, benefits, etc.); training or unique qualifications directly relating to the topic of the month (i.e. college representative, benefits expert, employment law specialist, government agency, corporate consultant, etc.); and membership status.

Can non-members of the Olathe Chamber attend?

One representative of a non-member organization is welcome to attend one meeting a year.

Can vendors make presentations to the HR practitioners that attend?

Vendor-led discussions or presentations are at the sole discretion of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce staff.
This is a "no sales" environment in order to preserve the dialogue and integrity of the meetings.

This course is designed to give students the fundamentals for driving responsibly, safely and defensively. In addition to the 8 hour classroom portion, each student will receive four to six lessons of behind-the-wheel training that will be scheduled during the classroom portion but will begin the week following the class. Amount of drive time is determined by the instructor as the student achieves the driving competencies (see Driver Education Webpage for listing). Students must be at least 14 years old. It is recommended but not necessary for students to have a current learner's permit prior to the class. All course materials are included in the course fee. A welcome letter from the instructor and the Transportation division will be sent to enrolled participants approximately one-week prior to the first class. For students under 18: We strongly recommend that a parent/guardian attend the first class to meet the instructor and complete forms. Driving lessons will be scheduled during the first class session. Driving will take place over the next 4-5 weeks. Expectations are that all students should complete the program during that 4-5 week time frame.
