Event Description: During the 2017 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read, six metro libraries are offering a community-wide reading and discussion of Tim O'Brien's book, "The Things They Carried", along with presentations, film screenings, youth activities and group discussions of O'Brien's collection of stories about a fictional platoon of U. S. soldiers before, during and after the Vietnam War. Pick up your free copy of "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien at the kick-off of the Big Read at the Olathe Indian Creek Library. Books may be available after kick-off depending on supply. 4:00 pm: Vietnamese food cooking demonstration and tasting 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm: Protest Songs with Danny Cox and Bob & Diana Suckiel 7:00 pm: "Forrest Gump" Screening (PG-13) No registration needed.
